Ever since last Friday, I told myself “I think I didn’t secure the job” because the interviewer told me that by hook or by crook whoever is called on Friday is the chosen candidate. So, after Friday has passed, I have assumed that the job was already offered to someone else.
So I went back to my usual “nonsense” plans like playing games, and slacking at the coffeeshop with a bunch of regular friends, and I will only get to sleep when the sun shines brightly.
Today (Monday), I went to sleep at 10am in the morning, and thinking that maybe I should find a new job on classifieds online etc. Then I was awakened by an unidentified caller, but it seemed familiar…
“Hello. I’m Don from Adecco. Remember me?” – said a voice, when I heard ‘Adecco’ immediately I know who called.
“Hello.” I said. “Is there anything I can do for you?”
“You were selected for the job offer given by Jacqueline.”
I’m in my half-awake state, with only 4 hours of sleep, I suddenly became fully awake.
“I thought if there’s no call on Friday, the job was given to someone else?” I asked, curious.
“Apparently, I only received her email on Sunday, which I’m not working, and I can only reach you today. I have been trying to call you quite a few times. Are you sleeping?”
“Ya… I went to sleep only at 10am. I was feeling depressed because I thought I didn’t secure the job, so I went back to my usual lifestyle.”
“Oh… No wonder… Anyway, congratulations because you’re chosen for the job. Are you interested in taking up the offer?”
“Sure why not. But it’s just weird that I was notified only today, which is Monday. So I have only 3 working days to learn whatever I need to learn from my upperstudy. Seems like I’ve got not much choice anyway…”
“Ok good. Are you free today?” she asked. Then I asked her why.
“You’ll need to sign a contract. Or maybe tomorrow after work?”
“But then you’ll probably have to wait for me.”
“I’ve got no choice.”
“No, I think I’ll come today. What time do you want me to be there?” I asked, feeling excited already.
“By 3:30pm. Is that possible?” she asked. I stole a glance off the wall’s clock, the time now is 2:30pm.
“Ok sure. Thanks.”
“See you later.” then she hung up the phone.
So I went to look for the office, it’s about 30 mins bus ride from my house. Upon reaching, I had to wait for her to prepare some documents, then we went into the discussion room.
She explained to me everything I need to know, and everything that’s necessary to be done. Of course, some questions were raised, but nothing to highlight in particular.
Then I left the office at about 4:30pm.
I called Jacqueline, and asked her “Hi, I’ll be coming over tomorrow, but where will I look for you?”
“You can let the guard know. I’ll inform them. Thanks.”
“Ok, I’m going to take the bus suggested and scout the place, so that I won’t get lost tomorrow.”
“Yes that’s a good idea to explore today. I myself am not sure how long will the bus journey take.”
Then we ended the conversation. I think she liked my anticipation and enthusiasm, well just to bodek a bit. Standard army tactic. First impression lasts.
So I took the bus, and even though it’s not jammed or packed with passengers, it took me at least 30 mins to reach to the bus stop. Judging from the walking distance, I think it’ll take another 10 mins to reach to the gates.
So in my calculation, it should be like this:
Time to reach: 8:30 am
Bathing: 15 mins
Getting ready: 10 mins
Walking from home to bus-stop: 5 mins
Bus to interchange: 10 mins
Interchange to work bus stop: 30 mins
Work bus stop to gate: 10 mins
Total time taken: 80 mins (1 hour and 20 mins)
So I think I should wake up by 7 am. Earliest should leave the house by 7:15 am.
I think I can make it. The waking up timing is almost the same as my NS timing, so nothing to worry about.
I hope the working attire must not require long sleeves. It’s just too hot.
